It has been a rough week in the professional wrestling world 😢 RIP, George 'The Animal' Steele pic.twitter.com/4RalCo0fBT— ProWrestlingStories (@pws_official) February 17, 2017
When I was a kid first discovering pro wrestling in the 1980's Hulkamania era, my aunt went to a wrestling show at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. My brother & I couldn't go, but she brought back a souvenir - a zipoc bag full of tiny foam squares. Seems like an odd and frankly boring gift for a child, except that this foam was ripped out of a turnbuckle by one Mr. George "The Animal" Steele.
Steele was THE BEST!!! Thick hair all over his body except for his head. A green tongue. He was insane, childlike, unpredictable, and most of all, lovable. Enjoy this video of the payoff match to his feud with "Macho Man" Randy Savage. This is one of my earliest wrestling memories. At 7:20, he goes for that turnbuckle and does his thing.
