Green Day Announces Plans for Career-Spanning Gear Sell Off

Green Day has accumulated a lot of gear over the years, and now the band is giving fans the opportunity to own a piece of punk history.

On Tuesday, the band announced that in cooperation with Reverb.com, it would sell more than 100 guitars, amplifiers, drums and other pieces of gear used on stage or in the studio over the band's more than 30-year career.

The official Green Day shop launches February 7 at Reverb.

Some of the highlights of the collection include a guitar used on the band's seminal 1994 album, Dookie, a mysterious Noble & Cooley / Zildjian snare drum, speaker cabinets scuffed up from a mud-fight at Woodstock '94, drum kits that have been played on world tours, as well as vintage amps and recording gear.

Drummer Tré Cool describes himself as a hoarder-turned-collector. He says fans can help him relieve some clutter in his house.

"I'm selling off just a wee bit of the collection, just a selected few items that I think — I'm not doing them any justice [having] them sitting around when someone could be using this stuff or enjoying it," Cool said in a video announcing the sale. "I haven't really sold anything ever."

Front man Billie Joe Armstrong says it was just time to part with some of the items in his own collection.

"Some of it I've used and some of it just kind of sat there in pristine condition," he said.

Interested fans can enter their email address at this location to be notified when the shop goes live.

Green Day has yet to announce any tour dates for this year, but the band is rumored to be crafting a new album this winter.
