The National Park Service will honor the victims of Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, during the 9/11 attacks, with a remembrance service on Friday (September 11). The ceremony will include speeches from family members, a wreath-laying ceremony, and the reading of the names of the 40 passengers and crew who lost their lives. Flight 93 was hijacked and intentionally crashed by terrorists after passengers bravely attempted to regain control of the aircraft, preventing it from reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C.

The observance will be held at the Flight 93 National Memorial, where a sandstone boulder marks the crash site. The memorial has become a place of reflection and remembrance, drawing visitors from around the world. As reported by Pittsburgh Magazine, the site will host a series of events, including a morning observance at 8:30 a.m. and an afternoon ceremony at 1 p.m. The Luminaria Ceremony will take place on Saturday evening, featuring candle lanterns placed at the Wall of Names.

The Flight 93 Memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the courage displayed by the passengers and crew who fought back against the hijackers. Their actions are commemorated through various memorial features, including the Wall of Names and the Tower of Voices. The site remains a vital part of the 9/11 story, offering a space for reflection and remembrance.
