As archery season begins Saturday (October 3), the Pennsylvania Game Commission is reminding hunters of the regulations in place for the 2026-27 hunting season. The commission emphasizes the importance of adhering to these rules to ensure a safe and successful hunting experience.

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners has made several adjustments to the hunting seasons and bag limits this year. These changes include the inclusion of Sundays within the hunting season dates, providing hunters with additional opportunities. The board has also proposed adjustments to the spring wild turkey season, reducing the bag limit to one gobbler per hunter. This change aims to balance the potential increase in harvest numbers due to expanded Sunday hunting.

Executive Director Steve Smith highlighted the importance of these changes, noting that they aim to maximize hunter participation while ensuring sustainable wildlife management. The board rejected a proposal to move the firearms deer season one week earlier, opting instead to maintain the current season framework.

The Game Commission also plans to implement changes to the elk application process, Chronic Wasting Disease response, and the Certified Hunter Program. Additionally, they are considering regulatory changes for baiting in Special Regulation Areas.

Public comment on these proposed changes will be accepted through the board's April meeting, where final approval is expected. Hunters and interested parties can attend the meeting at the Game Commission headquarters in Harrisburg or watch it live on the commission's YouTube channel.
