While we can understand someone not wanting a relationship with someone their pet doesn’t like, one man used his pet to insult his potential mate, and the gal just wasn’t having it.
A woman shares on Reddit that after four months of dating a man named Michael, she was set to go over his house to make dinner and meet his dog for the first time. She says that when they sat down to talk, the dog was moving around “in a funny way,” and when she asked about it, Michael laughed and said “the dog was telling him about me,” and that the dog “thought I was ‘ugly.’”
As you can imagine, the OP was “shocked” and “felt horrible,” especially because she has self-esteem issues, but Michael said she shouldn’t be “offended” over his dog’s behavior. But she wasn’t upset by the dog, more that Michael was “indirectly giving his opinion about my looks and using his dog as an excuse.”
This caused a fight, and the OP canceled dinner and went home, with Michael trying to call her several times. When she finally answered he told her she was “overreacting,” and that she needed to get over her insecurity or it would “set the tone” for their future. The OP’s sister even agreed, and suggested she should have “laughed it off,” but when she asked Reddit if she was wrong, most people agreed she wasn’t.
- "So either your boyfriend is a total a****** who uses his dog to insult you, or he truly believes his dog can speak to him telepathically," one person shared, “Either way, he is not someone I would lose any sleep over… Drop the dead weight and tell your sister to get lost."
- Another added, "Dogs don’t have those opinions. Michael was being cruel and using his dog as a conduit for that cruelty…This is cruelty and rudeness, and he’s showing you what he is really like.”
