A man was lost at sea for almost a day in New Zealand, before being rescued by using his watch.
The man fell overboard his 40-foot boat on a solo fishing trip, after the boat overturned when he hooked a marlin. The man spent a cold night in the ocean, and was approached by a shark who sniffed him out. He had attempted to swim to the Alderman Islands, but kept getting dragged further away by currents. Three fishermen spotted him after noticing a reflection on the water. The man was using the reflection of the sun on his watch to catch the attention of the fisherman.
"It is an absolute miracle the fisherman is still alive after the ordeal. Without the quick actions of the three gentlemen that retrieved him, this certainly would have had a tragic outcome," police said. "The boaties did an absolute stellar job and without a doubt saved this man's life."
The man was treated for hypothermia and exhaustion, as the location of his boat remains unknown.
