So, in 1990, Dave Grohl auditioned for Nirvana.
Grohl, who recently split up with his last band Scream, was a fan of The Melvins and had eventually become a friend of the band. Melvins' guitarist Buzz Osborne introduced the band to Dave, and Grohl auditioned for Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain.
"We knew in two minutes that he was the right drummer." Novoselic said.
The rest as we all know is rock history as Nirvana became one of the biggest bands in rock history, and that was in no small part with the contributions that Grohl brought, since the bands sound was far more erratic until he came along to stabilize it. In fact many compare his addition to Nirvana to that of Ringo Starr to The Beatles, but does that necessarily make him one of the top 50 rock drummers of all time?
Last year a rock website compiled a list of all time great drummers and listed Dave Grohl as one of the 50 greatest rock drummers of all time. Now, as stated before, Nirvana would not be or sound like the historic band they became without Grohl, but the question is, can you name 50 drummers greater that Grohl himself. Rock's ben around for a longtime, and there have been a great many drummers that have played it, so are there in fact 50 greater than Grohl himself?! We leave it to you. If you can name 50 greater drummers than Grohl post it and hashtag it #Grohl50, lets see who does and does not make your list.
