Today, December 13th, marks the National Guard Birthday!
In 1636, the Massachusetts General Court established the first official militia in the American Colonies, setting the foundation for the cornerstone of U.S. military defense and community support. The Massachusetts General Court organized militias to protect the colony, establishing the Guard’s role in defending communities and supporting national defense. Today, the National Guard continues to respond to both local and national needs, as a component of the United States Army. The National Guard is composed of citizen-soldiers who hold full-time jobs, attend school, or manage other responsibilities, all while remaining ready to be called on for military duty.
This dual commitment of balancing civilian life with military service, sets the National Guard apart from other branches of the military and is a testament to the dedication of its members.
Thank you for yours service national guard. Take a moment show your appreciation by posting a thank you and hashtag it #NationalGuardBirthday.
