Pittsburgh International Airport is calling for volunteers to participate in a dress rehearsal for its new terminal, set to open in the fall. The airport needs between 3,000 and 4,000 volunteers to act as passengers, simulating a typical day at the airport. Volunteers will follow scripts, moving through various airport functions such as check-in, security, and boarding, to help ensure a smooth opening day.
According to WTAE, the dress rehearsal is part of the airport's Operational Readiness Activation and Transition (ORAT) program, which began trials in May. The program aims to identify and address any potential issues before the terminal's official opening. Volunteers will be required to provide feedback after the trial to help the airport make necessary adjustments.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the new $1.7 billion terminal is 91% complete, with the public trial being one of the final steps before opening. The trial is open to all, and the airport encourages volunteers of all abilities to participate. Interested individuals can sign up on the airport's website.
The exact date for the dress rehearsal has not been announced, but the airport plans to finalize it within two weeks. Volunteers will not receive compensation, as participation is voluntary. The initiative aims to deliver a world-class airport experience once the terminal opens.
