Pennsylvania lawmakers are debating a bill that would allow popular food delivery apps to bring alcohol directly to residents' doorsteps.

House Bill 1451, currently under consideration in Harrisburg, would permit third-party services like DoorDash and Uber Eats to deliver beer, wine, and liquor throughout the commonwealth, according to local reports.

The proposed legislation includes several safety measures. Delivery drivers would be required to complete training through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. They would also be prohibited from leaving alcohol unattended or delivering to customers who appear intoxicated.

"This bill aims to modernize Pennsylvania's alcohol delivery system while maintaining responsible practices," said Representative Maria Rodriguez, the bill's primary sponsor.

The legislation comes as many states have already embraced similar alcohol delivery options, especially following changing consumer habits during the pandemic years.

Critics worry about potential increases in underage drinking, while supporters point to economic benefits for local businesses and added convenience for consumers.

As of Thursday (February 12), the bill remains in committee and has not yet advanced to a full vote in the Pennsylvania legislature. Interested residents can track the bill's progress through the state legislative website.
