The Harrisburg Senators, the double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are all set to kick off their 37th season. The team is returning with many familiar faces, including manager Delino DeShields, who is back for his second season with the club.
The Senators' opening day roster was announced by the Washington Nationals, and it includes 22 players who are returning from the previous season. "It's good to be back, looking forward to it. It's good to see a lot of familiar faces. You know last year was my first year in the organization, so I was just trying to find my way around," said DeShields.
The team's first game of the season will be at home on Friday night, against the Erie SeaWolves, the double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at FNB Field.
In addition to the excitement of the new season, the Senators have also announced their 2024 promotional schedule, which includes giveaways, fireworks, and specialty jerseys. The team is also partnering with First National Bank for its 'Homefield Makeover' initiative, which will provide a field renovation to one local youth baseball or softball league.
The Senators are looking forward to a successful season and are eager to welcome fans back to FNB Field. As centerfielder Robert Hassell III put it, "It's great. Reminds me of the big leagues."
