Fisher-Price is recalling all 2.1 million of its Snuga Swings due to a risk of suffocation. The recall, announced jointly by Fisher-Price and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), comes after reports of five infant deaths between 2012 and 2022. The infants, aged between one and three months, died while sleeping in the swings. In most cases, the infants were unrestrained and additional bedding materials were added to the product.

The Snuga Swings were sold at major retailers including Amazon, Toys R Us, Walmart, Sam's Club, and Target from October 2010 through January 2024. The swings were also sold in Canada and Mexico, with about 99,000 and 500 units sold in these countries respectively. The swings were manufactured in China and Mexico.

The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately remove both the headrest and the body support insert from the seat pad before continuing to use the swing for awake-time activities only. Fisher-Price is offering a $25 refund to consumers who remove and destroy these parts of the product. Instructions for this process can be found on Mattel's recall website.

CPSC Commissioner Richard L. Trumka Jr. criticized Fisher-Price for what he called a “flawed” recall, stating that the remedy provided by the company is not enough. He advised consumers to get their $25 refund and then dispose of the product, as even after the so-called ‘repair’ the product will still be unsafe for infant sleep.
