Officer Killed During Hospital Shooting Died From Friendly Fire
(York County, PA) -- The police officer that was killed during the shooting at UMPC Memorial Hospital died from friendly fire. The York County District Attorney's Office said West York Borough Officer Andrew Duarte was fatally struck by pellets from a shotgun blast fired by another officer responding to the shooting this past February. Investigators noted the shot was aimed at the suspect, who was struck at least 15 times. DA Tim Barker said the officers' actions were "legally appropriate," stating that every first responder was willing to run into the path of gunfire and potential death.
