2 State Troopers In Critical and Serious Condition After Chase, Shooting

Two Pennsylvania State Police Troopers remain in critical and serious condition following a shooting incident on Wednesday (October 8) in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The incident began when troopers responded to a retail theft at Dick's Sporting Goods on Lincoln Way East in Guilford Township, Franklin County. The suspects fled towards Interstate 81, prompting a police pursuit.

The chase ended when troopers deployed spike strips, successfully stopping the suspect vehicle near exit 3 on Interstate 81. Two female suspects complied with police orders and were taken into custody without incident. However, a male suspect opened fire on the troopers, injuring two of them. The troopers returned fire, fatally wounding the male suspect.

Both injured troopers were airlifted to Wellspan York Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. The Pennsylvania State Police Troop H Major Case Team and the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident. Further details, including the identities of those involved, will be released as the investigation progresses.

According to Local 21 News, the suspects were accused of stealing approximately $5,000 worth of merchandise from the store. The Pennsylvania State Police have asked the public for assistance in identifying the suspects involved in the theft.
