A study has uncovered an important way to help you lose weight: adding one more hour of sleep.
The study, published Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, explained how the subjects underwent a "sleep extension" program for two weeks. By sleeping about one hour longer per night, they took in about 150 fewer calories per day, which, over the course of the two weeks, averaged a weight loss of nearly two pounds.
On a typical night, the people in the study got less than 6.5 hours of sleep. The study authors say adding a healthy diet and some exercise to the extra sleep will only add to the benefits.
